What's real and what's not?

Have you ever been watching a programme and found yourself caught up in the storyline emotionally? I would imagine it's something we've all experienced at some point.

Now imagine experiencing that and not being able to distinguish whether its real or not...

When watching a programme with mum the other day there was a scene where there was a house fire. In this particular scene a little boy managed to escape but the mum was trapped in the bedroom. I didn't think anything of it untill I heard sobbing coming from mum. I asked mum if she was OK and she literally broke down in tears asking for Simon (my brother) cuddling into me.

She was crying and saying 'Is Simon OK'

I quickly changed the channel and tried to calm her and let her know everything is OK and Simon was at work and this was a TV programme. I turned the channel back to the programme in hope to see that the mum was rescued to show my mum that everything was OK - thakfully the mum survived.

I haven't really seen this in mum before - what I can only explain is that she seemed to think she was watching a real housefire and I fear she thought the small boy was Simon.

Just another example of the small things that we don't realise what mum's going through, her inability to distinguish between whats real and whats not it seems.
